5 Things You Need to Do Before You Start Your Study Session

If you’re a student who priorities the successfulness of your study session but does not know how to do the most effective way to study, then this is the right place for you.

Assalamualaikum and hello ladies. It’s been a week after I wrote my blog post on the daily habits of super successful people. Since you have known the secrets of the highly successful people, now you need to know how to make sure your study session is effective enough for you. For sure, you don’t want to waste any of your time learning something using the method that not worth of your time. As I am a student too, a really organized student, I want to share with you the most effective way of my study session. I used these 5 steps before I started my study session to make sure I receive something valuable and worthy from my study session.

1.       PREPARE YOUR STUDY SPACE
You must have your study space that are very comfortable and can make you focus while studying.

MAKE SURE YOUR DESK IS CLEAN
It is very important to make sure you have a clean desk before you start your revision. A lot of task you can accomplish if you have a very clean desk. Only put the things that you need while studying. Remove all the things that you think you will not use during your study session such as your breakfast bowl, your Tupperware etc. It can distract you. And also you don’t need to put all the textbooks on your desk. Just put on the textbook that you will need for your study. Those all things can distract you while doing your revision and it can be difficult for you to grab your pen or pencil if you have a messy desk.

PUT AWAY YOUR DISTRACTIONS
Please remove your smartphone while studying. Seriously, I am a type of student who could not focus in studying if my phone is beside me. You can ask your roommate or housemate to keep your phone away from you. This is the most effective way to be more focus in doing your revision. But, I just put my phone in silent mode since I’m using my phone to listen to my playlist. So, I would not get distracted by the sound of my notifications.

FIND SOME GOOD PLAYLIST
Some people can study while the TV or radio is on, but me cannot focus when there are other people conversations on TV or radio when I am having my study session. But, I love to listen to some songs when making my notes. I can’t hear music if I’m reading the law textbook. I swear! But, I have found some playlist that are nice to listen to when studying.  Maybe I should try after this when I pursue my law degree soon.
Film Sound Tracks:
·         All Harry Potter Soundtrack
·         Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
·         The Imitation Game
·         Dark Knight Rises
·         Dredd
·         Frankenweenie
·         Chocolat

GET YOUR SNACKS WITH YOU
Yesss, you must have your favourite snacks that easy to eat when you’re having your study session. By doing this, you can avoid the feeling of sleepy and bored when you read the law textbooks. My favourite snack is of course Cadbury. Chocolate is my favourite and Cadbury is the most I love. But, my advice is you need to eat healthy snacks such as nuts or any fruits.

2.       CREATE YOUR TO-DO-LISTS
I would create my to-do-lists before I start studying. I would divide my to-do-lists into several groups like studying (notes for chapter 3, drafting assignments), personal (self-care), business (write weekly blog post) and houseworks (cleaning the house, do the laundry). I would list all these before studying, so I would not easily get distracted by all the tasks that I need to complete on that day.

It’s okay if you can’t manage to finish all the tasks on that day. Just do the 3 most important task that need to be completed and it will be a huge success for you on the day.

3.       DECIDE YOUR STUDY-BREAK RATIO
You’re not a robot, ladies! You will feel overwhelm when you study for 5 hours straight. It’s not efficient to study in that way. Trust me. Make sure you have your own study-break ratio. As for me, I will have 5 minutes short break after 30 minutes studying and 30 minutes long break after 1 hour studying. I spend 1 hour for each study session. You will get less stress when you have the study-break ratio. The less you stress, the more input you will get.

4.       DO THE DIFFICULT TASK FIRST
Before this, I believe in doing the easiest task first can help me accomplish more works, but that particular way is not working for me. Actually, you need to do the most difficult task first. You will see those tasks are complicated but, believe me, when you have done with those tasks, you will feel more relieve and will be more motivated to complete the easier tasks.

5.       PREPARE YOUR REWARD
Usually I will plan my reward before I start my study session. By doing this way, I will feel more motivated to do my revision. Yes, I will give a reward for myself if I manage to finish my revision on 2 law subjects, for example. For instance, I would reward myself by having an early night, having a face mask, call a friend or family member etc. You can try this method too. It will be fun I bet.

Again I say, I’m not asking you for doing all the things before you start your study session. Just pick 1-3 things and try to apply it for 1 month and see the result. Good luck!

Comment in the comment section below: Which one from the above method that you apply in your study session? Or if you have any other method, do share it with me.
